WHY WE CARE
Working largely on our own in different situations in 2012, we met by chance over a latte and lamented on the lack of access to a community of inspiring local business women. Deciding to host an event to bring people together in Dartmouth, we reached out to as many professional women as we could. In June of that year, Business Women Connect (BWC) was launched and we both felt like we had found a group of leaders to inspire us and spur our own entrepreneurial creativity! We have never been disappointed in this enterprising community and we look forward to continuing to work with like-minded women.
I have been very fortunate to have worked in Canada, the USA and Japan. My passions lie in the areas of small business, tourism, and building collaborative relationships. On a personal note, I love to learn about languages, people, and culture through travel!
I hold a Diploma in Public Relations and a Certificate in International Trade Training. I'm a bit of a geek who enjoys any and all webinars and training sessions on different aspects of business development! I have worked as an advisor or support to women-owned businesses, immigrant-owned businesses, and artisan businesses. I get very excited about helping small business owners strategize and then watching them grow and succeed. I particularly enjoy encouraging, empowering and motivating women to find and trust their innate abilities to promote themselves and their products or services.
As well as being co-owner of BWC, I am a REALTOR® with Avalon Realty (www.YourHalifaxRealtor.ca) where I put my business and negotiation skills to work helping and protecting home buyers and sellers. I'm passionate about finding the right homes, condos, cottages, small apartment buildings or small businesses for buyers and helping sellers get the right price for their homes! My 16 years of real estate experience work for my clients, helping them buy with confidence and sell with success.
As a former small business owner I understand the triumphs and challenges of owning a business. I have always possessed a strong entrepreneurial spirit and mindset and love to connect with those who share in that same spirit. I have traveled and worked throughout Canada, the US, and Europe. I pursue my joy in travel, international relations, and leadership development and consider myself to be a lifelong learner.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Old Dominion University. My previous and current work experience includes foreign recruitment, employee relations, training and development, business process improvement and change management, I understand the importance of building and maintaining positive employee relations to ensure the continued success and growth of a business. I enjoy helping women develop their leadership style and aid in defining and creating their organization’s culture.
In addition to my role as the co-owner of Business Women Connect, I am a Microsoft Certified Trainer, a certified professional in Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Prosci Change Management Certification. I work full time as a Manager of Advisory Services for KPMG.
