YWCA Halifax is excited to partner with Business Women Connect to support women, young mothers and families experiencing homelessness in our community.


Each year, YWCA:

  • Provides 22,995 bed nights to women, young mothers and children experiencing homelessness.  

  • Conducts more than 2,200 supportive home visits.

  • Responds to more than 2,000 after hours emergency calls from women in crisis.  

  • Attends to at least 3 births of babies born to young mothers.

  • Conducts follow-up calls, visits with former residents, and maintains our relationship with graduates.


More importantly, each year we see women overcome their addictions, return to school, learn to become mothers, reunite with their children, and continue to heal and grow.  All this happens in the face of extraordinary adversity but with the support of our staff and the confidence of a home.


In some cases, women join our programs with no personal goods or items.  Most women must meet all of their non-housing needs (food, furnishings, transportation, personal items, gifts) with only $255 each month.


For this reason, in kind and cash donations from the members of Business Women Connect means so much.  BELOW you'll find the wish list of the women we serve.  YWCA will also accept cash donations to support our housing programs.

Consider this wish list and the story it tells.  Simplify your season, and enrich someone else's by supporting a woman in your community.

  • Gift cards (i.e. Tim’s, Walmart, Movie theatre, Dollarama, Sobeys, Shoppers, hair stylist centres, etc.)

  • Bus tickets

  • Head phones

  • Yoga pants

  • Pyjamas, slippers, underwear

  • Shower curtains

  • Winter wear (boots, jackets, hats, mitts, socks, scarves, ear muffs, etc.)

  • Cleaning supplies (broom/dust pan, mop, bucket, all purpose cleaner, paper towel, toilet paper, laundry/dish soap, etc.)

  • Hygiene products (shampoo, conditioner, brushes, combs, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shower gel, soap, tampons, pads, etc.)

  • Art Supplies (adult colouring books, coloured pencils, scrapbooking supplies, books, paint, canvases, etc.)

  • Towels/face cloths

  • Sheets (queen or double)

  • Storage bins

  • Night lights

  • Non-perishable food

  • DVD Players (new or second hand)

  • Diapers (all sizes)

  • Wipes

  • Formula

  • Baby food (non perishable)

  • Infant and toddler clothes, blankets, crib sheets

**If you are buying new items to donate and you would like a tax receipt, the item(s) must have a value over $20. Please attached the receipt, your name and mailing address in an envelope attached to the item with tape, along with a note asking for a receipt to be mailed to you, so that the YWCA can send you a receipt. 


Feel free to choose a non-essential gift item for a woman and wrap it for Christmas. We recommend that you put a little note if it is aimed at a specific age (for example, for a new mother) to ensure it reaches the right person.
